Doctor of Philosophy in Development Education (Ph.D)

Objectives

1. To provide expert level of theoretical knowledge and application in the particular area of specialization.

2. To enhance the competence of students to undertake advanced independent research and communicate the results to varied audiences.

3. To develop student’s competence to solve problems/situations in their area of specialization.

4. To promote the spirit of volunteerism through involvement in the activities in the adopted community of the school as in the community where he/she resides.

MAEd

Master of Arts in Education Major in Administration and Supervision (MAEd)

Objectives

1. To equip the students the skills to identify and solve problems of school administrators which they are facing in the educational setting.

2. To provide skills and experiences necessary to assume leadership roles in school administration and supervision.

3. To develop the students’ capabilities related to research work that have bearing in improving the different aspects of educational theories and practices.

4. To promote the spirit of volunteerism through involvement in the activities in the adopted community of the school as well as in the community where he/she          resides.

5. To conduct relevant researches for the improvement of the teaching-learning process.

MBA

Master in Business Administration (MBA)

Objectives

1.    To prepare future executives in developing their business careers especially those who are engaged in their own business.

2.    To provide future executives of the necessary theories, principles, techniques and concepts that may be utilized in furthering their business pursuit.

3.    To be kept abreast with the changing economic and political environment relevant to business managers to arrive at timely and correctable decisions.

4.    To enhance the leadership qualities and business competencies of future executives as captains of business and industry. 

5.    To promote the spirit of volunteerism through involvement in the activities in the adopted community of the school as in the community where he/she resides.

6.    To conduct relevant researches for the improvement of the teaching-learning process.

MAT - ENG

Master of Arts in Teaching Major in English (MAT - Eng)

Objectives

1.    To develop among teacher’s awareness, understanding and ability to implement the latest reforms in English education. 

2.    To provide teachers with effective teaching approaches, methods and best practices that address the diverse needs of students. 

3.  To enable teachers to evaluate instructional strategies and develop teaching units that will improve learning within the classroom that will encourage students’ development of critical thinking skill, problem solving and performance skills. 

4.    To develop leadership skills and promote cooperative exchange within the classroom, among faculty and with parents to provide greater opportunities in the curriculum and instruction in the classroom. 

5.   To promote the spirit of volunteerism through involvement in the activities in the adopted community of the school as in the community where he/she resides. 

6.    To conduct relevant researches for the improvement of the teaching-learning process.

MAT - MATH

Master of Arts in Teaching Major in Mathematics (MAT - Math)

MS Crim

Masters of Science in Criminal Justice with Specialization in Criminology

Objectives

1. To offer a comprehensive examination of the criminal justice system, an exploration of criminal and diligent behavior and opportunity

2. To explore relevant topics of interest and a foundation in research and statistics.

3. To inculcate and instill to the students the values and leadership styles befitting as police officers who eventually would occupy the top tier in the military/ police or relevant agencies both public and private.

4. To promote the spirit of volunteerism through involvement in the activities in the adopted community of the school as in the community where he/ she resides.

 

HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL OF GRADUATE STUDIES

The Graduate Studies Department of Metro Manila College was established in June 1981 and the answer to the policy of decongesting Manila Schools. This department was also established to upgrade the standards of the teaching staff of the Metro Manila College faculty and to offer professional growth to the people of Novaliches and its environs. The graduate school offers Master in Business Administration, Master of Arts in Education major in Administration and Supervision, Master of Science in Criminology and Doctor of Philosophy in Development Education.

The graduate school got the Government Recognition as follows:

 

a) Master of Arts in Education (MA) - April 10, 1984;

b) Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) - June 26, 1984;

c) Master in Business Administration (MBA) - May 7, 1986;

d) Master of Science in Criminology (MSCrim) - April 2, 1986; and

e) Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) - March 31, 1995

 

In school year 1982 up to 1997, the first Dean of the Graduate Studies was Dr. Aurora C. Castro, followed by Dr. Ligaya M. Miranda from school year 1998 to 2008, Dr. Eleanor M. Agapito from 2009 to 2010, Dr. Ramon M. Garcia from 2011 to 2017 and Dr. Dana B. Tebia from 2017 to present.

 

On its 38 years of existence, the Graduate Studies have withstood the test of the time upholding quality education for hundreds of students of Novaliches and its neighboring communities. During the term of the 3rd president, Dr. Erlinda M. Dalag, in 2009 the school voluntarily submitted its five programs for accreditation under ACSCU-AAI. After the formal visit of the institution in 2011, MMC was given the first level of Accreditation for the post graduate studies for the Master of Arts in Education, Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Philosophy.

 

Under the term of the current president, Dr. Eleanor M. Agapito, preparations for accreditation of several programs went into higher gear and are given priority in the quest of Metro Manila College for academic excellence.

 

A three-year Level II Accreditation Status was given to Graduate Studies programs namely: Doctor of Philosophy in Development Education, Master of Arts in Education major in Administration and Supervision and Master of Business Administration. In 2018, MMC subjected its MAT Mathematics and MAT English programs for its preliminary survey to the same accrediting agency, ACSCU-ACI. At present efforts are being done to improve, construct infrastructure facilities director towards maximizing service to the institution’s clients, especially, students.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE GRADUATE STUDIES

Goals

The MMC’s School of Graduate Studies commits itself to the following Goals:

    1. To develop leadership and expertise in different disciplines through excellence in instruction, research, and extension work;
    2. To develop worthy and useful citizenship through professionally trained individuals who will capably handle the different agencies of the society, both in the government service and private sectors;
    3. To motivate skilled men and women who will provide the necessary manpower for the development of the nation’s God-given natural resources and technological development programs; and
    4. To inspire well-bred young men and women who will be instrumental in the nation building.
Objectives
    1. To develop a community of professionals who are competent and committed to excellence.
    2. To update the graduate students on new trends and implement changes in their fields of expertise and conscientiously prepare to meet the challenges of a complex and dynamic environment responsive to the needs of society.
    3. To nurture the graduate students with high level of professionalism and productive scholarship through functional academic research.
    4. To inspire the graduate students to practice self-reliance and analytical thinking for the enhancement of our national heritage without oversight of our Christian outlook.
    5. To serve as a vehicle for the enrichment, transmission and preservation of desirable Filipino traits and values.
    6. To inculcate the spirit of community service and ethical practice in performing their respective functions as professionals.
